DARK BRIDGES is the debut alum from Beijing-based electronic music producer and multimedia artist, Liu Yiwei, aka FAR/∞. It is the culmination of a long process practical experimentation in the fields of installation design, hardware and software engineering, and live music performance. Dark Bridges presents FAR/∞'s hybrid, mechanistic view of the world: automated, randomized, clinically precise beats with an aggressively digital edge only sporadically buffed by warm, electro-acoustic accents. Briefly sampled pianos and percussive elements dot a landscape that's ultimately more machine than man, the product of Liu Yiwei's unique perspective as a media Artist, software Programmer, and music Producer.
Liu Yiwei lived in Berlin from 2009 to 2011, where he began to seriously focus on sonic and visual design. While there, he experimented with multimedia a/v installations and the creative use of software development. After returning to Beijing In 2012, FAR/∞ immediately plugged in to random live music and art micro-networks, creating live sounds, exhibitions, and installations in vastly varied contexts. Through his practice, he is creating a path for contemporary Chinese artists operating at the nexus between sound and sight, body and machine.
Liu Yiwe's work has been featured in Metrowaves, the Get It Louder Festival, CMODA (China Museum of Digital Arts), the Audi City Urban Electronics, Beijing Design Week 2013.
